The Gulen Movement is a danger spreading from Turkey to the world
In order to extinguish a fire, first you must prevent it from spreading to other areas. If we want to put out the flames of this fire, then the U.S. must conduct detailed investigations into their schools and recognize them as “a crime organization without guns” and freeze their assets. It would lead to the Gulen cult losing their financial power and an eventual collapse of the organization itself

Radical Islamic groups have tried various ways to assert their authority over people, and that generally involved the use of force until today. These groups view the modern world as a threat to Islam; in order to remove this threat, they usually apply terrorism, considering innocent people as nothing more than collateral damage. But the policies of these organizations, which are based on terrorism, averted them from having a voice and led Islam to look antipathetic to the world.
In Turkey, cults developed further in their effectiveness beginning in the 1970s, and have made a significant breakthrough which has led to radical Islam taking over Turkey, and although it seems farfetched, these cult methods could eventually spread radical Islam through the world. First of all, a main difference between the Gulen Movement and other radical Islamic organizations is the importance they give to education and technology. By using the latter, this cult ensures that those members who join them end up pledging their allegiance while they are at young ages, paving the way for them to get a proper education and prepare them so they can get any position at government agencies. With this method, they avoid a direct conflict and argument between the state and themselves, and simultaneously place cult members into the various government agencies, also known as Trojan horses, and have them act completely in the interest of the cult in order to help “capture” the agencies they are working inside of. When we look at Fethullah Gulen’s (the leader of the Gulen movement) speech, on June 18, 1999, his advice to his followers included suggestions to not act until gaining all the power of every constitutional organization in Turkey; that shows there is a methodical plan going on.
Gulen movement has become the owner of nearly a thousand schools in the world and the controller of a serious amount of capital. According to Jane’s Defense Weekly, a publication from the leading U.S. security and intelligence organization, the Gulen movement controls $25bn in various companies and assets. They are organized in poor African countries especially, and they succeed by obtaining a grip on the resources of those countries. The movement does not balk at any expense in order to give its followers the best education they can; it sends them to developed foreign countries like the United Kingdom or the United States to get the best education available and to learn English. After their education, the cult brings those followers back to Turkey and gives them important tasks.
Cult influence over the Justice and Development Party (AKP):
One of the main reasons the AKP has become the first party in the elections two times in a row is the coalescence of all the cults in Turkey giving their votes to the same party.
In its first term, the AKP government did not show its real (Gulen) face and they succeeded in deceiving the Turkish public that the government is modern and democratic; yet, after gaining all the power of the constitutional organizations, the AKP began to show its true self, and it has begun to act parallel with cult movements.
First, the AKP began a cleaning process with the media, starting with Cem Uzan, then they confiscated all the companies from big media bosses. This process ended by driving the Dogan Media Company to the edge by punishing them with a $5.9bn tax fine. All of those confiscated companies have now been sold to the business men who are connected to the Gulen Movement.
Following those incidents, many scholars, men of science, and military personnel have been thrown in jail due to the laws and regulations that are passed from the National Assembly in the middle of the night, and they are forced to deal with thousands of pages of cases; the only common thing among those people arrested is that all of them are opposed to the AKP and cults.
These processes have been applied by those cult members who have gained positions in the legal system. As a result of owning all the big media companies in the country, they propagandize their thoughts and all the incidents that take place in the country are being announced to the world as “democratization movements”. They use every opportunity to underline that the AKP gives great importance to the EU accession process and reforms.
Cult influence on the AKP government showcases its results in Turkey’s changing foreign policy. Turkey began a campaign of attacks on Israel in every area; even at the ministerial level. The ousting of the Israeli National Basketball Team from the Efes World Cup, the recanted invitation of Israel to participate in a joint military practice and the famous “one minute” incident at Davos are just a couple of examples. The Gulen cult has also begun a boycott campaign against Israeli products and they strongly oppose those products in areas that they are powerful in. Israel is accused of killing innocent people by Gulen scholars and it is being held responsible for every trouble occurring in Turkey through the movements personal TV series; for example, they show the Israelis as the cause for the failure of the Kurdish opening.
The US connection
Everyone knows the strong alliance between Israel and the United States, but despite this alliance, some people might be surprised by the support given to the Gulen movement by the United States. After being sued and accused of trying to build a crime organization to destroy the states secular structure in Turkey with his movement, Fethullah Gulen moved to the United States, and when he applied for the green card, some CIA officers, including Graham Fuller, gave him reference letters for his application. These events show just how much support the United States gives to the Gulen movement.
The reason for this support is the U.S. efforts to defuse the Middle East and Caucasus via Gulen’s moderate Islamic policy and to then exert control of these regions. This policy leans on the idea that cult movements are less harmful than terrorist organizations, and if you use them in the right way, they can even be useful. When we look at Turkey’s example, while terrorist organizations would not be able to succeed in taking charge of a country, the Gulen Movement could succeed in doing so and in a short time period as well, and then they can continue their dissemination.
In addition, Iran’s rejection of Gulen schools, and the closing of 16 Gulen schools in Russia and the final closure of 4 faculties in Iraq on December 30, 2009, shows that this movement does not have lots of power in countries outside of Turkey and Africa. Following these facts, the United States should stop giving support to this movement and start the elimination process of this organization. The Gulen Movement tries to build the same structure in the United States by opening several schools and it could soon begin to exert more influence there as well. Investigations in Utah on the movements dealings could be interpreted that the United States is finally beginning to see them as a threat too.
The future
Radical Islam could have succeeded in gaining control of the world before, but this time, its method is quite different and much more dangerous, of course. While the complete capture of Turkey is standing in front of us, it is impossible to approach the problem in an optimistic way. The Gulen Movement is trying what other Islamic organizations have failed to do, it wins the hearts and minds of people through good deeds and education, and that is proving to be just as dangerous as a ticking time bomb.
So, in order to extinguish a fire, first you must prevent it from spreading to other areas. If we want to put out the flames of this fire, then the U.S. must conduct detailed investigations into their schools and recognize them as “a crime organization without guns” and freeze their assets. It would lead to the Gulen cult losing their financial power and an eventual collapse of the organization itself; without money they will not be able to continue spreading. Once that has been accomplished Turkey can begin to eliminate them, since at this time, Turkey does not possess that power.

The US must switch support to the CHP in Turkey

It is apparent that every day under the antiquated Neo-Ottomanist policies of AKP and Davutoglu, Turkey is drifting apart from West rapidly. If AKP manages to win one more election, the United States and the West will completely lose an ally in Turkey.

Turkey is harming itself under the AKP

As a result of Israel’s aggression and the recent uranium deal with Iran, the AKP’s effort to pull Turkey from away west and toward the Islamic Middle East have started to be successful.

Turkey’s future lies with West, not the Middle East

Until now, Ahmet Davutoglu showed a very weak performance in Turkish foreign policy. If he keeps chasing unrealistic Neo-Ottomanist ideas in future, Turkey might suffer much worse consequences. Davutoglu should acknowledge that Turkey's future lies with the West, not with Islamic Middle Eastern countries

Ergenekon case in Turkey has been handled terribly by judiciary

If any of the Turkish domestic laws conflict with the ECHR, the judges should apply the ECHR articles instead of the domestic laws. In the Ergenekon case both the Constitution's articles and the ECHR articles has been violated and it is obvious that if some of the defendants go to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Turkey will have to pay for damages

Turkey's constitutional amendments are welcome but undemocratic
In order to make the people say “yes”, they will put 27 very democratic amendments in the package and not give the right to vote for them separately: one either has to say yes to everything or no to everything

Turkey-Armenia dispute must be settled in court
Both sides overlook that the only definite solution to the Turkish-Armenian dispute is through legal means. This is because the main subject of this dispute is based on a criminal allegation. Unless this problem is taken to legal authorities, both sides cannot have a definite solution

Early elections in Turkey: Who will win?
Following the recent developments in Turkey, the opposition parties have begun to put pressure on the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) to have an early election. The opposition parties realized that the failure of the Kurdish opening, TEKEL workers’ resistance, and the ongoing economic crisis has damaged the AKP and they are trying to benefit from the situation

Turkish-Israeli Relations: A Turkish view-point
The silent attitude of the U.S. means that the plans laid out for Turkey constitute the priority right now. After every crisis with Israel, Turkey gains more and more trust in the area. Following the latest crisis, Al Akhbar , a newspaper in Lebanon, defined Erdogan as a padishah (Ottoman sultan )and stated that only Turkey can make Israel understand. But despite all these developments, strategically important areas still do not trust Turkey

This article is so biased. Burhan Gurdogan, you need to first do some research and then think and only then write.
Gulen movement participants have founded a number of institutions across the world which promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue activities. During the 1990s he began to advocate interreligious tolerance and dialogue. He personally met with leaders of other religions, including Pope John Paul II, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomeos, and Israeli Sephardic Head Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron.

If you are ok with innocent people being killed, you are ok with the coups done by military which deteriorated Turkey's image and progress how many times by using the media unrighteously deceiving people, you don't have the conscience to love your country and your people, these kind of shallow accusations are normal.
Article is politically driven and biased. If you think all these generals, men of science (?), and scholars (?) are innocent of planning a coup, and killing of thousands of people, you are right. How could you explain 17000 missing people in the southeast of Turkey? How could you explain plans of coups?
If you would like to learn about Gulen, check out http://www.fethullahgulen.org

If this article is politically driven and biased then how would you categorize yours? You don't know but the bias they teach you in their SUHBET, and you never disagreed, stood up, or questioned any of their doings. As k those who did and saw their real face.
I disagree that the one who needs to find about Mr. Gulen should visit his website, instead you and any newcomer should see their two faces, one in Turkey and the other in USA. I have seen both, fist in USA and then the real one Turkey.
I disagree with what you have mentioned. If you are capable of his SUHBETS, then you would realize that everybody can put their disagreement. Please listen this suhbet: http://www.herkul.org/bamteli/index.php?article_i... If you can't understand, I will translate for you…
He gives perfect examples from our prophet, Mohammed, and companions. A Muslim or a person might put their concern so that the leader or supervisor wouldn't be arrogant and selfish. If you don't believe in or respect Islam, then your problem is not with Mr. Gulen whereas your problem is with religions.
By the way, What is the meaning of real face? You might have a real face but this movement has initiated in Turkey after the coup of 1960. If someone has a deal with "SIX ATTACKS of SATAN (written by Said Nursi)" , then, this person wouldn't like this voluntarily movement.
I'm not sure how you observe the movement in Turkey or USA, you might clean you "window-perspective" so that you will see everywhere cleaned!
Is erdogan part of the gulen movement?
John, there is one holy goal, the actors are not important, read about taqiyye from the holly book, read and think of it, the secret word will explains everthing
There is no WORD used as taqiyye in Holy Book. This term is used to label Muslims in Turkey if they don' practice their religion. If they practice religion, then you would say "Secularism is gone, we are getting close Iran which doesn't have anything to with Islam"
what do you want us to do?
Please go to http://www.scribd.com/doc/3932175/Aslandogan-Ya-D... to understand the real problem behind these websites.
Islam is a religion revealed by Allah through Prophet Mohammad's message. It is not liking the Ali, Abu Bakr or world!
No, he is not. But followers of Gulen movement support Erdogan's AKPARTI.
this is a ridiculous piece. I cannot believe The Comment Factory published this. The writer makes many ridiculous claims without citing a single source. He labels the Gulen movement a criminal organization but does not provide a single source, or anything that would vaguely resemble a half baked argument but demands the US to freeze its assets.
He recklessly uses the term Radical Islam without clarifying what he means by that, nor establishing any link between Gulen movement and Radical Islam. Lastly, he has not been able to provide any evidence to prove that decision and actions of the AKP is influenced by the Gulen movement.
Its really disappointing to see The Comment Factory entertain such mindless ramblings.
Spoken like a true nationalist.
yes true nationalist of saudi arabia
This is an article full of bias and hatred towards hundreds of thousands of volunteers who lend support to the education and dialog activities of the movement.
The article does not cite even one scholarly resource although the author makes very strong accusations and assertions about this movement as if this movement is some sort of a phantom.
This article seems like an insult to all free spirits, free minds, and free hearts; as it tries to impose a one-sided and biased position – without one credible reference or scholarly resource.
Anyone who is interested in the movement should come and participate in many activities organized by these institutions – to see for himself or herself.
Mr. Gurdogan also seems to be disappointed by how many people are attracted to this movement because of the importance given to education. What is so dangerous about education that makes the author paranoid?
I closely know many people and volunteers who are supporting this movement through their free will and independent choices. Because they want to make the world a better place through education.
Gulen movement is also famous worldwide for building linkages among people of various races, religions and colors. What is dangerous about dialog and understanding?
The author did not conduct any objective or scholarly research on the movement, nor did he bother to read hundreds of scholarly articles on various aspects of the movement.
There are many factual errors in the article. No person that I know of from this movement has ever said or written with bias and hatred towards Israel or Jewish people. On the contrary, all the volunteers
that I know (and I closely know thousands of them personally) are trying to build linkages of trust, dialog, understanding and compassion with people of all religions: Jewish people, Christian
people, and others of all faiths as well as atheists.
Just to correct another error among tens of errors in the article: The movement does not ever associate itself with any political party, and this is one of the key principles. People of every political ideology
can join and volunteer for the Gulen movement.
The fact that this article is "Editor Picked" horrifies me, and has hugely disappointed me about the Comment Factory, because this article is centered solely on bias and hatred – not facts, rigor,
analysis or insight.
I am not writing this piece to suggest a ban on the piece. Anyone can have negative opinions about the movement and can write them. However, articles written to insult people or disseminate hatred
should never be picked up by the editors. We are already fed up with paranoia, bias or hatred.
We need more articles about peace, love, dialog, education.
Dear Mr. Burhan Gurdogan,
We would like to read more positive articles of yours – that attempt to create real positive change. What are your perspectives on education to make this world a better place? What are your alternative suggestions on education, peace and dialog? How can we have a better Turkey through focusing on the quality of education? We would love to read about your perspectives on these issues.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely from the heart,

Fethullah Gulen has a video which he suggests not to act until gaining all the power of every constitutional organization in Turkey… and you want more evidence ?
This article explains the danger much better
http://www.meforum.org/2045/fethullah-gulens-gran...
It is published by an independent think tank called The Middle East Forum.
I remember watching the whole speech (not separate parts attached to one another), what he meant was getting integrated into the system, not gaining control over it. That's exactly what Talal Asad is advising to Muslims in Europe as well.
Gulen organization is probably the only islamic organization that didn't criticised invasion of the Iraq.
And about the "integration part" ; If it was an innocent suggestion as you mentioned, why did he advised his followers to keep those suggestions as a secret at the end of the speech,
These videos are public sermons he gave as an official preacher or talks to people after he is retired, all of which you can reach through his website or other sites on the internet. There was a time ~10 years ago, these videos had been brought together picking one word from one speech and attaching to one another from another speech and inventing those "secret" speeches. Then I remember those sermons were shown on TV as an answer to the claims. He was acquitted from those accusations however there are still some people believing in this. What's even funnier is that it is the same media who shows him as radical Islamist to the West while they describe him as a secret agent of US or Israel in Turkey.
The proof is how the country, under erdogans leadership is adopting antiwest and antisecular views. When you bring a country closer to religion. You bring it closer to insanity.
well thats your view and you are entitled to it but for it to gain general acceptance you have to provide something called evidence.
You made a few points
'Turkey under Erdogan is adopting anti west and anti secular views'
Evidence for that
and also explanation for the terms 'anti west' and 'anti secular'
Second point
"When you bring a country closer to religion. You bring it closer to insanity."
Because? on what grounds?
Once again, you dont necessarily have to provide evidence for these views as you are entitled to your own views but if you want to it to gain general acceptance..you have to provide evidence.
Another word of advice..if you want to be taken seriously, avoid using idiotic and senseless terms like "anti west" and "anti secular" because they dont mean anything. West is a huge term, so is secularism.
I'm sorry, I thought you had kept up with Turkey in the news.
Examples of Turkey moving away from the west can be seen in its foreign policy with highly publicized visits made to Iran and Syria.
Second example is the move to stop the head scarf ban. Whether you agree with it or not. I personally don't care whether they do ban or don't ban headscarves. The ban is secular in nature and removing the ban would be a move in the other direction.
Examples of religion bringing Turkey closer to insanity can be seen in their prime ministers statements that muslims can't commit genocide.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/nov/...
There are many more examples, but if you are a blind nationalist there is no point in pointing them out to you because you will just ignore them and continue in your lunacy. Orwell, in one of his greatest essays, outlines what he considers nationalism.
Take a look and figure out where you fit in.
http://www.orwell.ru/library/essays/nationalism/e...
The only reason you call terms like "west" and "secular" idiotic is because you are conflicted inside. I just heard a lecture where 90% of Iranians say they want freedom of speech, freedom of expression and religion. Yet I would bet the same 90% would say that the danish cartoons should never have been allowed to be published.
John, you don't know what secularism is. The headscarf ban is an oppressive measure, a breach of the fundamental liberties and civil rights. By your logic, the Crystal Night anti-Jewish pogrom would also count as a secular move by the German people. In fact, removing the headscarf ban is precisely what needs to be done to protect the secular nature of the public sphere.
The prime minister's statement about Muslims and genocide is a logical proposition and although its relation to the factual situation can be debated, it has nothing to do with insanity. What he is claiming is that Muslim ideals and committing genocide are simply incompatible. You cannot commit genocide and continue claiming that you are a good Muslim. Similar statements using the same logic are made all the time. For example, an anti-fur person might say "Those wearing fur cannot be human", or an evangelical American might say "A good Christian cannot commit adultery, cannot steal, cannot lie…" Though these statements can be debated, they do not show these people are insane.
"By your logic, the Crystal Night anti-Jewish pogrom would also count as a secular move by the German people."
How in the world did you infer from my logic that destroying stores owned by jews, religious and non religious, is the same as limiting the religious influence in civil society?
You're other statements don't make any sense either. The prime minister said "muslims" he didn't say "good muslims don't commit genocide" leaving the options that bad muslims can commit genocide. Every nationalist person sees his religion, people or culture as better than others. He ignores any crimes committed in the name of his people, culture or religion. Let me remind you that the Armeniam genocide was committed by "Good Muslims".
So true so true. Turkey hasnt gained anything by being a muslim nation for so long and by going the direction into more radical islamization will put Turkey 10 steps back instead of forward. Fight the islamization not just in Turkey i would say all over the world!! Fight for a secular Turkey and a non religious government. Many Turks are so brainwashed people and very, very easy to manipulate by the gov and the media ect as we all can see unfortunatly.
The truth is that Turkey under Erdogan's leadership has moved ever closer to western and secular views. Democracy, civil rights and fundamental liberties have never been stronger. Today, Turkey is a much more free country than it was in 2002. Its economy is much more robust. Being a puppet of the west is the ultimate betrayal of western values, which place a premium on the power of humanity, on original thinking and the ability to adopt a critical outlook. In these respects Turkey is now much more advanced than many European countries. That's why EU has nothing to say or offer on the pressing international problems in the Balkans, the Middle East, or the Caucasus, while Turkey has been the voice of conscience.
A very unfortunate article. The title itself suggest the bias and lack of sophistication on the part of the writer. Even the use of the term "radical Islam" to identify the social organization around Gulen is an utter mistake. Gulen's ideas has nothing to do with radicalism of any sort, on the contrary, many people considers him as the champion of the tolerant and open-minded Islam. His is a great value and contribution not only to Muslim peoples but also to the world at large.
Unfortunately, however, there are many "radical" secularists from his homeland Turkey that regard him and his sympathizers as a threat to their way of life, which idea stems from but lack of knowledge and prejudice. None of the mainstream Turkish secularists would agree with those radical secularists for that matter.
With such articles based not on facts but bias and hatred, the credibility of this forum would come under question.
It is so funny that eventhough writer included Gulen's video and American defense firms' report, how everyone says it is not based on facts.
The problem is they say they are one of the most tolerant organizations in the world, they even say they are the champion of it, but when we look at the responses here and when we look at the situation in Turkey, if someone criticizes them, they immediately accuse him/her being a radical secularist, or coup supporter or a jew supporter through their media.
You are confusing tolerance with passive admittance. In a free society, anyone and everyone is entitled to criticize everyone's views, AS LONG AS no one resorts to brute force or arms and everyone respects law. In the past, dissenting voices in Turkey would be silenced through assassinations, torture, terrorism, or military interventions. What is markedly different in Turkey, from 2002 onwards, is that such antidemocratic, dictatorial and oppressive measures are no longer effective. The terror attack against the High Court (Danistay) in 2006 and a series of terror attacks against Christians including the journalist Hrant Dink were all organized by the reactive forces who do not want Turkey to become a free, open and prosperous country. They are now being tried in the Ergenekon case.
Gulen's video proves nothing. It is a fact that thousands of personnel were expelled from the military unjustly, without giving them any legal recourse. None of them has ever been tried in a court and found guilty. Hence, in the eyes of universal law, these people are INNOCENT. When the state practices such discrimantory policies against a group of people, what are they supposed to do? That speech was Gulen was not shown in its entirety on TV. Maybe he told his supporters, "Do not act until you gain all the power in Turkey" but then continued as follows: "And then, do what you need to do to make Turkey a free, democratic and prosperous country."
That was one of the most strangely unfortunate essays i have ever read. What a pity, that the writer seems to know very less about the group of people he wrote about. Or he simply tried to arouse hatred deliberately, would be a right comment here…
Why is it bad to go for education of millions of youth, or why is it harmful or dangerous to talk about peace and dialogue? What is dangerous about these? And how come Gulen movement has followers of any age, gender, nationality in a huge number increasing day by day, and all acting in harmony within themselves and also with the societies they belong or they serve among ? Has anyone seen one single member joining into activities taht can be called dangerous even in a slightest way? These people are respected and supported by a big majority of Turkey, and in many countries they are active also they attract respectful attention of those they are interacting with…
The writer so called gave an example of a "video" line…That one line was deliberately taken out of its context and presented in a way to misinterpret his words. Necessary statement was given by his lawyer later on…
Any reasonable person will laugh at the idea that Gulen and his group can be called "radical"… I guess Gulen can be radical in love and dialogue vision, but nothing else…
How come this kind of a biased thing could be published here? Being against something is understandable, and it's what it should be like in democracies, yet extending rumors in a face of "article based on facts" is a real scary danger itself.
We can see how devoted you followers of that ignorant man. One day you will all see how abused you were and you will lose faith to everything you believe.
Open your eyes and see what his movement stands for.
All his followers are doubling their incomes and you think this is a co-incidence? Many of you writers above possibly are on scholarships from his institutions and it is evident that you've sold your souls to him.
Feto is just an unimportant factor on this game, the great US imperial game in which our country is used against Russia, Iran and European Union conflicts on middle east.
So what I recommend you is to open up your eyes and see the full picture. Our country is on the edge of a bad future and we are the only ones to change this future. Without independency, there is nothing else.
A ha ha… I get the smell of musty mentality.. It is interesting and of course instructive to see the tendency which discredits the movement in the West as becoming 'anti-American' while in the Turkish public as becoming 'Americanist'!
So I decided to note the link below FOR the commentators and open minds to give them some healtly ideas about the danger (!!!):
http://www.gulenconference.org.uk/
Taqiyye is a satanic instrument in use of Fettoshians, Fettoshians are definately traitors
Paralax, the Fettoshians thinks they are very smart (satanic) to deceive yankees till the so called islamic revoluation, so they are americanist as long as the their interest in common way, actually we know that they call US as "The Great Evil", US also knows the Fettoshians but they want to use them as trojan agent in turkiye
hi corporal!
firstly, what is 'Fettoshians'? the rhetoric you use – in a word – so 'strange'.. secondly, 'islamic revolution', 'satans', 'The Great Evil', etc. do you sure you don't talk about 'Humeyni'?! you should use your brain analytically, it would be better for all of us..
imaginary definition; not real,
)
The Fettoshians live in a utopic world, not real
they are the kings of Taqiyye , i am afraid that they might forget the taqiyye, and really become fighters of democracy
imaginary definition; not real,
)
The Fettoshians live in a utopic world, not real
they are the kings of Taqiyye , i am afraid that they might forget the taqiyye, and really become fighters of democracy
i am talking about a story Paralax, there is no relation with real life, the imaginary Fettoshian guys knows everything best, they can have rights to say "biased" "you dont know" , "read" , "some research" etc. because they are so sure, "without any doubt" they have a real prophet from the chosen nation by the god
these imaginary guys are always suprised why the others cant see the very open stuation, so the others need to read, study, make some additional research and USE THEIR BRAINS ANALYTİCALLY (because only the imaginary fettoshians can use their brain analytically, this is a gift from the god) more and more until they see the beyond question truth
I witness the potential of the movement's support in the upper education myself. A big majority of the students who receive their education in different cities than their hometown, are bound to reside in movement run dormitories (because they are almost free of charge and the avaiability is huge, despite the lack of goverment based student dormitories).
While the propagation in these dormitories are mild when compared to radical islamist synonmys, a small minority of naive countryside students (of typically low income families) are tied to the movement, where they form typical student groups who always exist of the same sex.
Those student groups always have a "leader brother", usually from an upper class of the same faculty. The members are advised to keep all discussions within the group, the actions of the members are determined by the leather brother, regulations over cultural activities are really strict and usually consist of movement run gatherings, again in unisex form.
Those groups act mutualistically, sharing of lecture notes within group, the leather brothers educational assistance are big acquisitions, cheating within the group is seldomly seen. While they act real passive in big and advance universities; in small universities those groups occasionally comment about political events, sometimes about girls dressings etc. I personally have no information about the religious and idealistic parts of their education, and their goals, since this is never talked with people of outside world. But it is obvious that Turkish army is unhappy of them, and they are unhappy of everything of army.
Since the movement has gained a political fragment (especially in Turkey), it is now impossible to evaluate the movement in solely educational form. But because the members of the movement do not openly announce themselves as followers, it is also impossible to estimate their actions and political potential completely.
But clearly distinguisable as a population in universities, those clever hardworking people, with their naive personal aspects and straight loyality to their movements, posses an enormous potential for the people in control.
Those houses and dormitories, educational instituions, media, and companies in control, make up an enourmous amount of economical wealth. Even picturing this aspect is enough for distinguishing gulen movement from "save africa" campaigns. This is, serious.
sorry corporal, but it seems to me that you described just your attitude perfectly – so I'm not in this game..
Paralax, yes i must be a com- ( imaginary fettoshians vocabulary, it is abbreviation of communist, to describe ppl has no potential to submission)
So, this seriously, highly criminal guys, are so smart, and clever, etc but also so stupid to be the preys of a crime web like this… Also their "leather" or leader, is a very clever and wise guy to be able to achieve his"target" of cheating millions on the way to get the whole world in his "dangerous" hands, even at this age and within these health conditions…Yet, at the same time, he is such an "ignorant and illiterate" man… Another thing is they work for America but actually they are anti-American at the same time… And since i write these lines, i must be one of his dedicated men, who has been grown up by their fund and thirsty for even a huge and crazy wealth i will be soaked in one day…like my leather brothers
and fur sisters… And of course no one should mind to give a chance to some other way, because if i am supporting gulen movement, i must be narrow minded who can't see any other way possible…
Let me cut the sarcasm here (unfortunately, it is transmitted), and tell the truth…I owe my spiritual well-being to Mr. Fethullah Gulen. Among my friends who are committed to his views, all i see is a respect to him due to his closeness to God. He is not a "prophet" . i feel pity for those who are tend to be paranoids more than skepticism. Gulen himself is an old, ill person. He is living his life in one room. What kind of a wolrd kingdom he may be after? Anti-feto or anti fetosh or what so ever guys(not talking about the names or nicknames here, just that sort of people, if we need to catagorize) are really harsh on their language, they attack, insult, abuse, at least go to the bottom of sarcasm… I have never seen any Gulen movement member use such language…They are even kind to those who are insulting…After this debate going on here, i listened to one of Gulen's recent talks, broadcast by his followers on a website. He was -regardless of this matter here, it was a general topic- saying that he could forgive anyone whatever bad he does to him (on the day of judgement). Someone said in the comments that these people are naive. Yes they are. And this makes me like them more.
" I have never seen any Gulen movement member use such language.." " Someone said in the comments that these people are naive."
but these imaginary fettoshians are too busy with plotting, trapping, blackmailing people, so they can stay naive like angels and no time for using such language
))
how to measure "his closeness to God" ?
and "Among my friends who are committed to his views"
"To commit, intrust, consign. These words have in common the idea of transferring from one's self to the care and custody of another, "
poor imaginary fettoshians could never understand english, and become a free individual (impossibility of democracy without free individuals )
))
The enclosed structure of the movement, the speeches of Gulen ordering the members to hide their real identity and goals until every constitutional govermental organization is under control, is more than enough to understand that Gulen movement is more than a thinkers guild. Please stop making nonsense.
Indeed, the Gulen movement is more than a thinkers' guild. It is the main thrust behind the recent democratization of Turkey and the cleaning up of the terrorist cells within the state abusing state power. Without the support of the Gulen movement, Turkey would have been embroiled in a blood bath as it happened so many times in the past. If there has not been another incident in Turkey since 2002, like that happened in Sivas in 1993, in Kahramanmaras and Corum in 1978, it is because the Gulen movement's support for a democratic and open Turkey prevented the Gladio terror cells from committing such horrible acts. If there has not been a series of high profile assasinations of journalists, academics, and intellectuals, as it happened in 1970s and 1990s, it is beacuse such plans were intercepted with the support of the Gulen movement. Those who made detailed plans to take Turkey towards civil strife are now being tried in the Ergenekon case.
Future generations will be eternally thankful to the services and sacrifice of the Gulen movement towards a more democratic and free Turkey.
How can a dogmatic belief support democracy, this is not possible and and has never been seen before, the goal is theocracy clearly
If this Gulen movement is suspicious, then so are the 100s of christian missionaries working all over the world, especially in countries designated "third world"!
this article simply throws muck without any evidence, whatsoever
by the same token, one could say that the christian missionaries working in the third world are funded by the CIA and the secret services of the west, to create problems in stable societies of asia – in fact there is quite a lot of that going on in India
to measure the closeness to God, you need conscience. the real results will come at the end, so you may be closer than me, or Fethullah Gulen, and i have nothing to say about this.
happy for you, that you have enough skills and understanding of english, and obviously could become a "free indvidual" …
what i'm more happy about is, thanks to this article, those who wants to have an idea about anti-"imaginary Fettoshians" had a chance to see your attitude…
now i can go back to my poor life, without freedom, and self-control
)
have a nice day
As as atheist turk and an admirer of the Gulen movements dedication to educating and helping the poor, i hope the Gulen movement starts a English TV channel like CNN in America to explain itself to the American people. As a worker in a Gulen run school, I see the sincere kindness and the dedication of the Gulen movement volunteers. The Gulen movement volunteers give hope to thousands of children who might have turned to a life of poverty, crime, drugs, and terrorism without the support of the Gulen movement.
I couldn't read all the comments but I agree that there is no proven connection between Radical Islam (I suppose the author meant groups like Al Qaeda in this category?) and the Gulen movement. I even found this a bit too exaggerated and out of context to be honest. There is much to be said about the Gulen movement but terrorism is definitely not on the list. As a matter of fact, the allegations that there is some sort of connection to the CIA stems from the fact that this movement represents more of a moderate version of Islam (according to the Americans) and that's why people claim the CIA and segments of the US government support the group.
It's not a secret that the Gulen movement has friends inside the US government. If you go to the group's website, you can see a video of Bill Clinton talking about the group with pride. There is also a video from a dinner event the group organized with Hillary Clinton before she became the Sec. of State.
You can watch a piece I made for US Public television that involves an introduction to this group at this link:

And an interview I conducted with an expert at the Brookings Institute about the group can be found at this link:

kesinlikle katılıyorum umarım bu tehlikenin farkına herkes varır.kimse islama, hristiyanlığa yada herhangi bir dine karşı değil.ama birileri bunu kendi çıkarları için kötüye kullanıyorsa ,hele de ''din'' adına, buna son vermek gerekir.

Fahri, Adnan- those of you that are part of Gulen/Hizmet- how biased do you think this article is when the only thing you offer is web sites written or owned by Baba Gulen?
The Fethullah Gulen poster is all over the Internet doing damage control on this poor excuse for a Turkish "scholar". Gulen only has a 5th grade education, he has managed to emass a $25 billion empire, while those of you following him live a life of poverty.
Gulen has no relationship with the Jewish, Greek Orthodox or Catholic churches. Patriarch Bartholomew is crucified by the Turkish government, John Paul II was shot by one of our Turkish brothers. Rabbi Doron and the rest of these credible relgious leaders only met Gulen one time and they do not endorse him at all. Here is the 60 minutes piece with Patrarch Bartholomew's interview about how Gulen's government friends have persecuted the Christians and other minorities of Turkiye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHiqidzKNx0
Any illegal activity? Any immoral/unethical activity? None what so ever…
So what the hell are we discusssing here?
Fethullah Gülen is an authoritative mainstream Turkish Muslim scholar, thinker, author, poet, opinion leader and educational activist who supports interfaith and intercultural dialogue, science, democracy and spirituality and opposes violence and turning religion into a political ideology. Fethullah Gülen promotes cooperation of civilizations toward a peaceful world, as opposed to a clash:
“Be so tolerant that your bosom becomes wide like the ocean. Become inspired with faith and love of human beings. Let there be no troubled souls to whom you do not offer a hand and about whom you remain unconcerned.” (Fethullah Gülen, Criteria or Lights of the Way. London: Truestar.)

These radical Islamic groups continue to claim that the modern world is a threat to Islam. However, as far as I am concerned they themselves are a threat to the very cause they intend to serve and thus themselves are the greatest threat to Islam.
These groups fetter one's progress and free will. Radical Islam is the enemy of improvements and the deadly foe of education. It demolishes one's pride, it breeds insolence, it promotes vice, it shelters crime, and it is a curse upon the free world.
Yet they claim they view the modern world as a threat, but their use of technology seems contrary.
Islam itself needs to fight these radicals. Islam itself needs to stand united and say no more. But as Islam has proven time and time again that day is far off if at all.
Bizim tarihimiz Islam’dir. Ne yazikki siz atalarimiza yuz ceviriyorsunuz. Bizim insanlar Islam’dan uzaklasip bati kulturune yaklasiyor. Hocaefendi’nin okullarinda turk gencleri ahlak ve terbiye uzerinden egitilyor. Benim hocalarim ban dinimi ve kulturumu ogrettiler. Onlarin sayesinde ben insallah universiteyi bittirecegim ve kendi ulkeme donup kendi insanlarima hizmet edecegim. Onlar olmasaydi ben dahil bircok turk genc Amerika’nin sokaklarinda kendilerini harcayacaklardi. Turkiye’nin ne oldugunu bile bilmeyecektik.
Keşke hocaefendinizin kuklası olmak yerine, kendi yolunuzu kendiniz çizseydiniz. İki kalacak yer, iki yemek için vatanınızı satmışsınız haberiniz yok.
