Cuba and the language of human rights in the Americas
Salim Lamrani — July 7, 2010 4 Comments
In the West, the name Cuba is inevitably associated with the issue of human rights.European and U.S. media stigmatize the largest island in the Caribbean repeatedly on this matter. No other country in the Americas is so singled out as is the homeland of José Martí, which is subject to media coverage disproportionate to its size. In fact, events that would go unnoticed elsewhere in Latin America or the world are spread immediately by the international press when it comes to Cuba

Malawi’s jailing of gay couple should outrage all Africans
Michaela Clayton — May 21, 2010 1 Comment
There are days when I am not proud to be an African. Yesterday, Thursday, 20 May 2010 was one of those days. They hadn’t killed anyone, or robbed or raped anyone or even hurt anyone. All they had done was to show their love for each other by engaging in a traditional engagement ceremony

Investigating Turkish atrocities against their Kurdish population
Gizem Yarbil — December 16, 2009 3 Comments
When I was growing up, everything I heard from Diyarbakir involved death and tragedy. Turkish media has covered the conflict extensively through the years, but generally only from the Turkish military’s point of view. Visuals of crying mothers of dead soldiers, coffins and military funerals on the evening news often accompanied our family dinners. But I don’t remember ever seeing a crying Kurdish mother or anything about the other side of the story on the news. For many of us, Kurds were the enemy, the “Other” that existed to destroy the Turkish people and the nation

Hillary Clinton was feted as a human rights advocate, but she’s shown this was all a lie.
