Afghanistan is bursting with potential as a future tourist destination. Its mountains could rival Nepal as a trekking destination, while Silk Road cities like Herat with their brightly tiled mosques are the match of more celebrated rivals like Samarkand or Isfahan. The jeweled lakes of Band-e Amir are itching to have feet dipped in them. Nomads lead their camel caravans past the broken remains of tanks. So according to me Afghanistan is very good tourist place.

Hi there
I'm sorry to hear that - it must be upsetting for you. Nick didn't mention anything about that aspect of life in Afghanistan, but he was spending most of his time with Afghanis rather than expats.
Take care

Hi Jessica, I read your article on Nick's trip to Kabul, it sounds like he had a wonderful and exiting time. My question is this though; there are thousands of expats working there from all over the world and specifically America, it would be interesting to know what the construction contractors do there at night other than work. From what I have heard and read in the news in Kabul with all honesty that these men philander around with expat females while they are there 3 months at a time and the wives are home with the children wondering about their safety and security. Then only to hear about all the parties they have every so often with a mixture of male and female contract workers in there companies so called Villa's. Unfortunately I am one of those wives. It bewilders me that they have to go there earn the money they do and philander with whom ever they have the opportunity to do so with. If this could be exposed to the public so that other wives I think more stringent measure would be put in place. Furthermore I have read in the news there are even Chinese Brothels there, now what is really going on in the expat community??

Hello Jessica,
I've been living and working in Kabul for the last 9 months and often comment - to friends who ask me why I don't want to go on leave abroad - that I feel as though I'm permanently on holiday and I'd like to see as much of this wonderful country as possible while I'm here.
You might be surprised to learn that some organisations are actively trying to promote tourism in Afghanistan. There actually are more tourists than you might imagine, even weekenders, here for the hectic week-round nightlife in Kabul and breathtaking scenery everywhere by day.
I particularly liked Nick's comment: 'Afghanis are somehow the most caring and most ruthless people on earth… at the same time.' with which, having just witnessed a street-fight from my office window, I have to agree.
Thanks.
