Guantanamo: A Poem
Guantanamo, by Paul Cullinan
By Paul Cullinan on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 - 80 words.
Oh, To be that bird,
Floating through the air,
Did it see the towers falling?
Did it feel their loss and despair?
Oh, what a sense of freedom,
Utopia in the sky,
Blindness makes them angry,
Craving an eye for an eye
Oh, what a squawk,
Singing for liberty,
We’ll leave the yanks to their confusion,
Sweet Bird, lets right their wrong
Bang!.. Flutter…thump…
Now anger burns in me,
It floats the whole way down,
9/11 Symmetry
The cultures keep on clashing,
This cage is stupidity,
Aren’t they the fuckers from America,
Isn’t that the land of the free?

This is so beautiful, it's like a song, flowing perfectly. This poem makes me so happy, it just proves to me that there are still people like myself who use poetry as a medium. I could just read it over and over again, the message of the poem just punches me in the face every time…Thank you for posting this, we need more political poetry in society today.
