As was observed in the aftermath to the tragic death of Ian Tomlinson, there is a need for a police unit that is specially trained in policing public order and demonstrations but when units of this kind begin to develop an institutionalised impression of themselves as being elite and above the regular force then that unit needs to be disbanded or officers rotated into other roles
